EMDR

Reprocess distressing memories in a healthy, natural way -

EMDR or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy was created by Francine Shapiro after noticing the level of emotional and physical intensity of a distressing memory could be significantly reduced by replicating eye movements similar to those that occur during REM sleep. Since then, it has been extensively researched and found to be a gentle, yet effective, method of trauma therapy because it relies on the brain’s natural healing processes. Usually, our minds can heal themselves - However, if overcome by trauma, our natural healing processes can malfunction causing trauma to remain “stuck” in our brains and bodies.

EMDR not only helps to “unstick” and desensitize past traumatic memories, but it also helps us make more sense of our experiences and accompanying thoughts, emotions, and behaviors

WHAT IS AN EMDR SESSION LIKE?

EMDR sessions utilize bilateral stimulation (i.e., eye movements, tapping/vibrations, and/or audio tones) - During the initial stages of EMDR therapy, you and your therapist will work together to create a “target list” and implement coping practices while utilizing slow bilateral stimulation to strengthen your ability to emotionally regulate. During the desensitizing sessions, rapid bilateral stimulation will be utilized while you focus on navigating your way through your previously identified distressing memories. Your therapist will be there to guide you through this process with intention and care, making sure you remain within your window of tolerance.

Trauma Therapy

Reclaim your experience and build lasting coping mechanisms -

Trauma is clinically defined in two ways - “Large (T) Traumas” are defined as singular, unexpected events and/or experiences that are perceived as life threatening. “Small (t) traumas” are not life threatening, but are highly distressing personal events that overwhelm one’s ability to cope effectively. These are also referred to as “complex trauma” because they consist of layers of emotional suffering that occur over time. Crescent Counseling & Consulting, LLC utilizes evidence-based, trauma-trained practices including EMDR, CBT/DBT, and Ego State Therapy (Parts Work) to help you heal from the symptoms and distress caused by traumatic or disturbing life experiences. Overcoming trauma is a complex and deeply personal journey, and it’s possible with the right support, resources, and recurring self care practices.

WHAT IS A TRAUMA THERAPY SESSION LIKE

Healing and processing trauma can look different for everyone because everyone has different needs. During a trauma therapy session, you will meet with a trauma-trained therapist, who will partner with you to help you work to process your trauma - it is important to note that processing trauma often involves more than traditional talk therapy because it involves regulating the body. During session, this is something you and your therapist will work on together using evidence-based trauma-informed techniques - and, though you are working with your therapist, please remember you are always the one in control of your treatment.

Perinatal Therapy

Redefine your perinatal experience -

Each phase of motherhood comes with a unique set of challenges and feelings. Most women experience these feelings and while it’s not often talked about - you won’t have to face them alone. Having the support of a therapist who specializes in perinatal mental health and gets what you’re going through can assist you in no longer making it through these moments but instead embracing them.

WHAT IS A PERINATAL THERAPY SESSION LIKE?

After getting to know you, I will partner with you to create an individualized treatment plan. This may include creating a detailed birth and/or postpartum care plan; connecting you with other local birth workers who align with your values and can help set you up for a supported birth experience; or working alongside you to relieve residual trauma symptoms from a previous birth in order to become more connected and present focused. It may include all of the above. Whatever phase of motherhood you are in, you will be given the utmost level of respect and quality care.

PLAY THERAPY

Rediscover creative ways to help your children adapt -

Play is our first language. Play is how children communicate. Through play, children can express thoughts and feelings that might otherwise remain hidden, safely process traumatic events, and learn new coping strategies and increase distress tolerance. There are multiple ways to include play in therapy - some common techniques may include non-directive or child-centered play, sandplay, role play, etc.

WHAT IS A PLAY THERAPY SESSION LIKE?

Play therapy sessions typically look a little different from your typical therapy session - this is intentional in order to create a safe environment for our younger clients. We might utilize techniques such as sand tray, art therapy techniques, etc. in order to help the child lead us in where they want to go in terms of processing. This is an example of a non-directive approach. A more directive approach might include partnering with the client’s parent(s) to provide psychoeducational services and improve family communication strategies. You can read more about play therapy and what to expect from play therapy sessions here.

At this time, Crescent Counseling & Consulting, LLC is not paneled with any insurances. We elect to remain out-of-network in order to best protect you and your confidentiality; maintain the ability to decide the type and time-frame of treatment that best fits you and your needs; and to avoid having to give a preemptive mental health disorder diagnosis.

These rates honor and reflect the dedication that our clinicians have to provide the highest quality care. We regularly receive continuing education, pursue advanced credentials, and engage in consultation to ensure that you receive the gold standard of care.

With that being said, we understand that finances are a significant consideration when seeking quality mental health care.
